Why Starlink for site internet

A connection for places still being built.

SmartWifi hires Starlink satellite internet kits for construction and building sites, events, compounds and other remote or temporary locations. The available setups include a compact, battery-powered Mini for portable or no-mains locations, and separate mains-powered Gen 2 and Gen 4 kits for longer-term setups.

The Mini uses Milwaukee 18V batteries that can be charged on site and swapped like any power tool battery. Gen 2 and Gen 4 need a mains supply and include a 30 m cable, 3 m mast and router; the mast helps position the dish for a clear view of the sky. All kits have unlimited data, and repeaters can extend WiFi across cabins, offices or the site.

On a construction site, the Mini’s two batteries can be swapped one at a time while the connection stays live, with no downtime or power-down. Its case power button switches the kit off when it is not in use to save battery.

Do the kits have a data limit?

All SmartWifi Starlink hire kits include unlimited data.

Does Starlink Mini need mains power or a generator?

The Mini uses two Milwaukee 18V batteries, which can be charged on site and swapped one at a time. It does not need mains power or a generator.

Can I change the batteries without losing connection?

Yes. The Starlink Mini kit takes two Milwaukee M18 batteries. Swap them one at a time and the connection stays live. The red voltage display on the front shows battery level at a glance, so you know when to swap. When the site’s finished for the day, the power button switches the kit off to save battery.

How long do the batteries last?

Around 6–8 hours of light use on a pair of 5Ah 18V Milwaukee batteries (estimate; run time varies with usage and conditions). You can swap batteries one at a time to keep the connection running for longer, and site teams can keep spare charged batteries on hand.

What comes with the Gen 2 and Gen 4 kits?

Gen 2 and Gen 4 are separate, mains-powered kits. Each includes a 30 m cable, a 3 m mast and a router; WiFi repeaters can be supplied as required. The mast and cable let you position the dish for a clear view of the sky.

Which kit is suitable when there is no mains supply?

The portable Starlink Mini is the battery-powered option, using Milwaukee 18V batteries that can be charged on site and swapped like a power tool battery. Gen 2 and Gen 4 are separate mains-powered products.

Can Starlink WiFi cover cabins or a wider site?

WiFi repeaters can be supplied with Gen 2 and Gen 4 kits as required to spread coverage across cabins, offices or the site.

Can Starlink work with another internet connection?

Yes. Starlink can work alone or alongside a Peplink pop-up kit using bonded 4G/5G for extra resilience.
